My Expression of Interest was accepted by the University of Wolverhampton!
In it I propose, as an aspirant ‘critical proponent’, to explore how children’s rights are negotiated in everyday lived experiences in provision for two-year-olds in three different cultures. The choice of countries, Finland, Sweden and England is based on their ranking in the educational dimension of the UNICEF well-being index (2008), each ranked in the top, middle and bottom third respectively.
The emerging theory is that how children’s rights are realised in early childhood education and care provision may be linked to well-being and academic performance. The Convention on the Rights of the Child will be used as a frame of reference when analysing social constructions of children’s rights.
