One point discussed, where opinions diverged, was whether to write in first or third oerson. I admitted that I have in my past studies never written in first person before as I had been led to believe that it is not academic enough, and I do appreciate this concerns. However, as I have in my previous academic writings not been “allowed” to have a voice, I am beginning to feel quite strongly about wanting to allow my voice to finally come through in my current research. For the time being I will continue writing in first person, allowing my voice and clear presence in my thesis. On my academic journey before my PhD I have always been encouraged to be ‘neutral’ but I have come to a point where I do not wish to be neutral, possibly due to my PhD topic. I do not believe you can be neutral when it comes to children’s rights.
