A rich discussion ranging from the distinction between authentic and genuine, to rights-based pedagogic practice and theory.
A recurring theme during our conversations is my level of participation as a researcher; "to participate, or not to particiapte"?
I beleive becaue my research is in line with a Praxeological approach (participatory, democratic and collaborative) (Pascal and Bertram, 2012), researcher participation is a fundamental aspect of my research design. I do recognise that research with children (or adults for that matter) can be intrusive and can be “a way for the adult to monitor and manipulate the children” (Harcourt and Johanna Einarsdottir, 2011, p.303). However, as my approach to research is democratic and collaborative, there will be an ongoing dialogue with the participants regarding their desired level of engagement. In other words ongoing negotiated consent (Flewitt, 2005).
