I attended a seminar at the Oxford Children’s Rights Network again, delivered by John Eekelaar's (Emeritus Fellow of Pembroke College) with the enticing title Rights Children should not have. I had a wonderful conversation with John Eekelaar himself, whom I referred to a couple of times in my first CREC presentation a couple of years ago.
I was astonished to find out that I had fundamentally misunderstood his position as I had relied on judgments made by known legal scholars in the filed. Eekelaar accuses academics of misrepresenting him. I was so excited afterwards, having taken the opportunity to speak to John himself after the presentation, to clarify some legal points, as 'academic correctness' is very high on my list of priorities.
